Habitat around Los Angeles

Deeper, slower water in reservoirs and the warm urban lakes CDFW and counties plant with cats.

How LA anglers actually fish them

T14 CCR §5.15: bullheads no limit; other catfish no limit except listed waters. Los Angeles County exceptions with a five-catfish bag: Alondra, Belvedere, Cerritos Regional Park, Earvin Magic Johnson, John Anson Ford, Kenneth Hahn, and La Mirada. Castaic, Puddingstone, and Santa Fe Dam are not on that five-fish list unless posted.

Current CDFW regulations

  • Size limit: No statewide minimum
  • Bag / possession: No general limit, except 5 catfish at the listed LA County park lakes in §5.15
  • Season: All year

Read the park sign. The five-fish list is specific; do not assume every urban lake is on it.
