Alamitos Bay, Long Beach

The sheltered flats of Alamitos Bay stay calm even when the open coast is blown out, making it a good backup plan for a light-tackle halibut, barred sand bass, and spotted sand bass drift by kayak or small boat. Leopard sharks and bat rays share the sand. This is the most consistent spotted-sand-bass water in LA County.

What you'll find here

Sheltered bay flats. Jetties are a separate public-pier listing.

Regulations reminder

Size limits, bag limits, seasons, and MPA rules are set by CDFW and can change in-season. Public-pier license exceptions (CCR 1.88) apply only on qualifying structures — not on the beach next to them. This is an independent site and is not affiliated with CDFW.
