Crystal Lake (San Gabriel Mountains)

Crystal Lake is the namesake water of the Crystal Lake Recreation Area in the San Gabriel Mountains. When the highway is open and CDFW is planting, it is a cold, pretty trout lake a world away from Legg. When the road is closed by fire, storm, or winter, it is not a fishery you can will into existence. Confirm USFS access, then confirm the plant schedule.

What you'll find here

High-elevation USFS recreation lake. Plants and access both depend on the mountain road.

Regulations reminder

Size limits, bag limits, seasons, and MPA rules are set by CDFW and can change in-season. Public-pier license exceptions (CCR 1.88) apply only on qualifying structures — not on the beach next to them. This is an independent site and is not affiliated with CDFW.
